Hi - first of all sorry for English but I have no Dutch and you guys are so knowledgable.
ST5 new July 4th 2020
About 1867 miles so far (just over 3000km)
Just noticed tonight play in rear wheel. Axle is firm, play is from rim to axle with hub visibly moving. At rim maybe 1-1.5mm.
Is this normal or unnacceptable? Will it get worse?
thanks for guidance
Tim

Not normal, not acceptable.
With the 26" wheel Stromer models, rear wheel bearings may wear out after 20-25k km's. The rear wheel bearings from newer models, such as your ST5, are not supposed to show any sign of wear during the entire period of usage. At least, that is what both Stromer and the dealers say.
So: either you bearings are worn and this a a factory error (warranty, and it will get worse if you don't take action) or something else is wrong. Go see you dealer and ask for checkup + advice. You still have warranty.

Thanks, you have confirmed my thoughts.
I wasn't sure if it had always existed and I hadn't noticed: But it seems wrong.
Thank you
Tim

Have you checked the spoke tension? Compare it with the front wheel -> press the spokes together between your fingers.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this or if this isn't the cause, as mentioned above, the dealer should fix it. Loose spokes tend to fail / break (metal fatigue) so don't wait to long.

Thanks. Oddly enough this morning, with the bike cold (I'd done 30km in S) the play has gone.
I shall talk to my dealer.
I will also check spokes... thank you. This is why I like this forum.

Just had a new rear wheel in my 5 after 13000km and another forum member(Jeroen) in his 5 after 6000km. Both were swapped-out with no problem whatsoever from the dealer. We both had the same problem as you. Rear wheel play in the bearings,so its worth popping getting it looked at.

Well, that was an experience.
I first spotted the problem in the darkness: In my defence pedalling has fely a bit ... odd ... for a while
Turns out after a clatter and some grim noise yesterday, the cassette lockring had come undone and the sprokets have beet rattling and dancing
I'm a long way from my dealer, so whipped the wheel out, investtigated, cleaned and reassembled.
Bit of a surprise on such a bike that the cassette may not have been supplied tight.
Never mind, all's well now...
Cheers
